Hello, my name is Shannon. And I am the last American under the age of 50 to be in possession of an MP3 player.
Or, just in case I'm not, you might be interested in this review...
Insignia let me try their 2GB MP3 player, offered for $113.99 at Best Buy. I will confess, that although I am a music buff, I am not a technology buff, and I let my Gadget Guru Hubs take the lead in assessing this.
The thing is tiny--TINY--and easily fits in my hand. It's smaller than my cell phone. The sound quality is excellent--you should hear Josh Groban sing "O Holy Night" on this thingy, ohmyword. It has 2 GB of memory, which holds 500 songs OR 2,000 photos OR 25 audiobooks OR 7 movies.
Yes, movies. Did I mention it has a little color screen? I feel so hip watching something on my handy little MP3 player. Another cool feature is the digital FM tuner (though I'm more of an AM talk-radio kind of girl, this would be a convenient tool if FM was your thing).
Hubs thought the software was a little awkward, at least for a "beginner" user, though we're hoping with use we'll grow more accustomed to it. But for the price? You can't beat it. I'm not an Ipod girl-never tried one--so I don't know that I can give you a fair comparison. (Plus, Apple doesn't make a 2 GB Ipod, as near as I can tell). A comparable Samsung MP3 player costs at least twice as much. It would appear to be an excellent bargain.
So yes, I recommend this handy little gadget, especially if you're shopping for a kid who tends to lose things (and if you know a kid who doesn't lose things, please tell him to come give my kids lessons). You can find it here at Best Buy. I give this a 4.5-rocks rating.

UPDATED TO ADD: See Holly's comments in my comment section below. I stand corrected!
