Hey, Look!
I CANNOT SEEM TO GET MYSELF INTO GEAR THIS WEEK. Maybe it's a case of the post-vacation blues, but I'm finding myself all addle-brained and grumpy...and wandering room-to-room in my messy house, looking at the piles of stuff, shrugging, and walking on.
And creative blog content? Not a chance.
So, in lieu of anything profound or funny or entertaining in any way, I thought I'd post a picture of something I made right before our trip. I'm pretty proud of it, actually--it's the first time I have managed to sew a piece of clothing WITH gathers that did NOT end up looking like a potato sack.
And while I totally intend to don't mean to brag, can I just tell you that this whole sundress for Corrie--fabric and pattern--cost $3.50? It pays to learn to sew, my friends.
In the meantime, head over to someone who is managing some creative thought--Mary at Owlhaven has a lovely idea brewing for a blog carnival next week. You can see the the details here.

Impressive, I sewed my finger in Jr. High and that is where it ended my friend! Cudo's to you!!!!

Sounds like post-vacation stress syndrome. Ha! The dress is A-dorable. Good for you! I'm allergic to crafts, of course, so that's seriously impressive.

I would love to be able to do that :-(

So Cute! It makes me want to pick up sewing again!

Unfortunately when I look at my sewing machine, I do the "shrug and wander off". The creative bug hasn't stung me in a very long time. Cute dress...I bet she looks adorable.

Oh, I hear you! We just got back from 2 weeks away, including one on the beach and it has taken me days to unpack. In fact, a HUGE beach bag full of shells still sits on my front porch! Just move at your own pace.
I love the dress! I used to make all of my daughter's clothes and it was such a joy! I even made her pageant clothes and talent costumes. Many hours were spent sewing on sequins and seed beads. I can't believe I did that and DID NOT KEEP THEM! I must be nuts.
I am going to try to get back in the blogging habit. I read blogs every day but have not posted in weeks. I just can't get in the habit. Nancy

How adorable is that!!!?
And I think you should brag :) lol

I've been sewing since 3rd grade (Barbie clothes of course). Sewed little sun dresses for our two girls, GIJoe pjs for our son, and now the circle is coming around the bend with sundresses for granddaughters and Pirate PJS for grandsons. Your sundress is oh so lovely - good for you!

My 12 year old has inherited the sewing gene from my mom... I once saw her throw her pink monkey flat on a piece of flannel, whip around his body with her tailor chalk, and after a few minutes of hunched humming over my sewing machine, (which now lives in her room rather than in the basement) slapped him into a pair of flannel jammie pants (which matched a pillow case and jammies she'd just made for herself) with a carefully constructed, double-reinforced tail hole. Like your mom, I'm so blessed to have a child who entertains herself with such creative activities!

Dang, that's darling! I'm terribly impressed. And I'm impressed with that price. I've got to dig back to Home Ec days to recall sewing anything (that pillow shaped like a pencil was priceless...) but perhaps it's still there.

I regret not learning to sew from my mother. You will save SOooooo much money and your daughter will have lots of outfits for all occasions. When I moved away from home (to Miami from Virginia) I still called my mom and would tell her I need a dress for yadda yadda and presto one would arrive by mail. I would simply take it to some plae to have it hemmed the right length for the shoes I was wearing. Awesome! I think about learing now sometime but I dunno. When? How?

Very cute! I haven't done any sewing besides mending in ages, but I really want to get back to it.
It takes a while to "recover" from vacation. :)

how sweet! I wish boy clothes were as easy to sew as girl clothes *sigh*.

I was so glad to read that first sentence or two. I'm feeling the same way.

The dress is so cute - but the thing that impresses me most is the price! I love sewing, but it seems that usually patterns + material make it most costly to sew than to buy. You obviously have some bargain-finding skills to compliment your seamstressing gifts!

A very fetching frock - makes me [almost] want to dust off the sewing machine, but I'd have to drag it out from under a huge pile of stuff and the stuff would have to be dealt with first......
Clearly I am far too lazy today.
Cheers

Cute dress, I have the same material to make one for my 2 year old. You've inspired me to get it done!

That is too cute!!! I am truly impressed, now do you have a bow to go with it?:)

What an adorable dress! I love the bows/ties on the straps. Great job!

I am duly impressed! I haven't been on vacation, so what is my excuse for the miles of piles taking over my home?!?
I, too, have decided with my dress-loving daughter to take up sewing again. I figure with simple patterns and bargain (cute) fabric, I can't go wrong. I will have to post my first attempt. There was a bit of a learning curve, as it has been FAR too long since I have sat at a sewing machine.
Apparently my Maddie loved it... every time I turned around she was wearing... for like 3 days!

Awe! It's simply adorable!!! Can I have one? And a little girl to put in it???

So cute! I never learned to sew. I love for my little girl (about Corrie's age) to wear dresses in the summer, and she is outgrowing this year's supply quickly. This dress is very sweet.

I AM totally impressed with that dress. Wow, $3.50. Really? I knew I should have paid better attention in sewing class.
I truly am impressed.

What a cute dress. I have just started sewing for my little girl, and it is fun and she just loves having things made just for her. And $3.50 that is amazing.
