If the Plot Were Any Thicker, It Would Be Cement
Ben said he would tell John who his "man on the boat" was. I glanced at the clock and said, "Look, Hubs! There's a whole 21 minutes left in the show! I think we're actually going to find out who the man on the boat is!"
You'd think I know this show by now.
Twenty-one minutes later and all we have is Ben walking across the lawn with clean sheet and towels. Well, and then there's me, standing in my living room, shouting "JUST TELL WHO THE MAN ON THE DAD-BLAMED BOAT IS!"
I mean, I know it's Michael. It has to be. But I just really need the writers to confirm that for me.
That darn show. Oh, how they toy with me. And I just love it.
Here are a few random comments/questions from tonight's show:
What did Ben mean about the rabbit (the one John served him) having a number? A lab rabbit, I guess?
What is the deal with the creepy therapist appearing in the jungle with the weird voices? It's those same voices that appear with Walt. Does this mean the therapist is dead? Are the voices a sign of some psychic power Ben has to work inside people's minds?
Speaking of Ben, just when I think he can't get any spookier, he does. He scares me more every week. Poor Juliet. I think this is first episode in which I fully sympathized with her. I didn't trust her, until tonight.
But holy shmokes, did you see the look of jealousy on her face when Jack tended to Kate's head wound? If looks could kill, Kate would be a goner.
Early in the episode, the creepy therapist told Juliet, "You look just like her." Just like whom? Ben's mom? Leave it to Ben to have some weird Oedipal complex.
So, if Ben is a bad guy, and his enemy is Widmore, then that would (presumably) make Widmore a good guy. (See how my simple little mind works?) But if Widmore is a good guy, then why was he so awful to Desmond? And what are the WEIRD odds that his daughter's boyfriend would end up stranded on the exact island he was searching for?
Could the whole thing be any more randomly, cosmically, spookily, eerily, wonderfully inter-connected? Oh how I love this show.
Okay, Losties. Fire away with your thoughts about tonight's episode.

I think you're absolutely correct! I thought the same thing! It's got to Michael. But how do the Walt appearances play into that? Maybe you're right about Ben controlling people's thoughts with images, but why would he resurrect Walt's image to save Locke? Arggggggg. Seriously have a love-hate relationship with this show!
What about the children they snatched in the beginning that were on the "list"? Funny thing, I was just thinking about them and whether or not they'd wrap up that plotline. It's still unsolved, hopefully not forever. Not that many people care, but it would give me closure. There are so many things that need closure yet. I'm not sure they'll be able to get them all in!
I have to question though if Widmore is the good guy in this one. If he's out to exploit the "wonders" of the island, does that make him good? If it were to benefit the world, I could see it but if it were for shear profit, then maybe not. Again so many questions!

It started off great for me, thinking that Juliet was a celebrity for being one of the Oceanic 6. I was saying "NO WAY" to my hubby when it became clear it wasn't a flash forward.
I think the rabbit had something to do with that time Ben tricked Sawyer into thinking he was going to have a heart attack if he over-exerted? And there was that bunny who had the number painted on?? But I don't know why Ben would have asked..
I agree. I think it's Michael. Or Jack's dad. Or Charlie. Or Locke's dad!! Or....?

I also think that Michael is Ben's "in" on the boat...i don't know why i thought that.
if anything, i trust Juliet LESS after tonight...i mean she seemed pretty gung-ho to go follow the orders of the creepy therapist in the woods/Ben. she just didn't go through with it in the end. I think she's still a spy...or something.
I'm a big fan of Jack/Kate, so I was mad to see Jack and Juliet tonight...Kate and him have been through so much!
I think that somehow Desmond was planted on the island by Mr. Widmore. Or was racing Mr. Widmore to see who would find it first. Maybe that's why their relationship is "strained"...somewhere in the past Desmond vowed to find the island first? and then SUPRISE! bad news.
this show is so incredibly frustrating...but I feel at least a LITTLE better after tonight than i did after last week!!!

I think Michael is Ben's man on the boat, too.
I don't trust Ben's explanation. He has manipulated people in the past -- that's what he does best -- so I don't think there is any reason to think he is not pushing Locke's buttons. Plus there is all the killing he has done and his obsession with Juliet revealed. I don't see how Ben can be a good guy at all.
I was thinking Widmore had something to do with Desmond getting close enough to the island to get stranded on it because he somehow knew about it or was behind it and wanted to get Des away from Penny. But now I am wondering if he was looking for the island as Ben said and he knew Penny would do full tilt to find Des, and all he had to do was follow her investigation. She did tell Des last time that she knew about the island -- I don't know if that was from her father or what. This show is definitely giving my brain a workout!!

Hey Shannon,
I've been a dedicated reader of your blog for some time now, but I've never commented. Until now.
I bet you are on the edge of your seat with anticipation. Yes, I produce the same entertainment intensity as LOST. Or so I wish.
Anyways, check out this link. I loved this theory on the island. Plus, it totally makes sense. http://www.timelooptheory.com/index.htm
I love your LOST posts, well actually all your posts. Maybe it's cause I am a mom too, and can relate to most of your blog fodder. Except maybe the Africa stuff. Never been there. But I have had funny, crazy kids.
Well, thanks for entertaining me on a daily basis. It's nice to have a place to go to be sure I get a good laugh, at least every now and again.

I wasn't buying into the Michael theory until tonight. It makes sense though- Ben allowed him and Walt off the island and now it's payback time. Or maybe Walt infiltrated the crew hoping to rescue the tailies...
But then again, just as soon as I think I have something figured out- it all changes and I'm confused again!
I did love the looks on Hurley and Sawyer's faces when Ben walked by with his stack of linens- priceless!

I just feel like Michael would be a little too obvious. I'd love to believe it's Charlie, although I can't figure out how in the world that could be possible. But then again, there are SO many things about this show that don't seem possible.
If Ben tells Locke he'd better sit down, and they're going to keep me hanging on another week for the answer, they had better shock my socks off.

You must live in a different time zone, cuz how'd you get that all up so stinkin' fast! You rock! I have all the same questions!
BTW, my friend works with "Juliet's" husband - real life. She met Juliet/Elizabeth last week. I had dinner with my friend last night... so I kinda had dinner with Juliet last night... right? I'm such a loser, but I'm OK with that.
:)

The husband and I think that it's Michael on the boat.
And I would like the see the "children who were on the list" plot resolved. Which somehow my husband did not even remember. I was like "uh remember, they kept showing a child captured by the Others, dragging a teddy bear like a BAJILLION times?"
Posted by: Shannon | Friday, March 07, 2008 at 02:08 AM
Just before turning out the lights, my husband had the nerve to say, "Juliet's in the coffin." Bolt upright I sat. "NO."
Couldn't sleep for 15 more minutes for all the pondering.
I think it's Michael on the boat as well.

The rabbit has to be #8. The one Ben tricked Sawyer with.

I agree with Jodi...I like to think it's Michael, but it does seem a little obvious. perhaps it's a character we've forgotten?
I wish it could be Charlie too, but I think his death was too noble and foreshadowed so much that it couldn't be him.
I too thought hey we have like 30 min to find out who Ben has on the boat! nope.

I had alot of the same thoughts you did. I really thought that the show was informative and again we learned some pivotal things. I always sorta did trust Juliet because I think she wanted SO badly to go home she would do anything and last night confirmed that she has no allegience to Ben since she did not kill charlotte and daniel when Ben told her too.
Yeah, the whole Ben "owning" Juliet thing is so creepy...I wonder if the person she looks just like suffered at the hands of Ben before Juliet got there and didn't make it? So many questions!
It must be Michael on the boat. it has to be. Who else could it be? i want them to tell me because I have said all along that there is no way Ben let Michael and walt just go home.
I love this show :)

I still think it is Michael on the boat as well... it may seem a bit too obvious now, but it makes sense since he is coming back on the show. But, with LOST, who really knows? I think this one is right, though!
Remember in an episode or two from last year the bunnies with numbers on them? That is why he asked if the one he was served had a number...
And I think the lady who was Goodwin's wife didn't really appear to Juliett in the woods, asking her to go kill Charlotte and the "time travel" scientist guy - I think it was the black smoke monster! The whispers, and rain and it all just felt like the BSM was back, taking form of someone she knew as it has done before? Just my opinion, but that is what I thought initially...

I am thinking that Desmond is the man on the boat that Ben has. I think Ben is anti-Widmore because he doesn't want him to find Desmond (isn't Widmore Penny's dad?). Also, I think that Ben has some way to make everyone time travel so when we see "dead" people, I think they are actual traveling in time or something, under the control of Ben. I know...so far fetched...a little too sci-fi for me. :)
Posted by: Jessica | Friday, March 07, 2008 at 07:07 AM
When the whispers started and Goodwin's wife appeared my husband postulated, "I think the others can slip through time and space and the whispers are a precursor of them coming out of the slip!" OKAY!
Now didn't Ben say the man on the boat was someone you'd least expect? And everyone's expecting Michael! So who could it be? Christian? But does Locke know Christian. Maybe it's a GROWN UP WALT!

I am just going to cry and complain. Even tho Lost is seriously nutty....at least your local channels have some sense.
Our local television channels think We want to watch high school basketball instead of Lost.
Talk about lost.
"Do everything without complaining or arguing."
Does that go for tv, too?

Lost is one of my favorite shows AND it's one of the only shows that both my husband and I watch together. We Tivo'ed it last night and I eagerly await our weekend when he will rub my feet while we snack on unhealthy foods and watch our friends on and off the island.

This is interesting. I think it's actually Sahid who is Ben's guy on the boat. I think Ben's whole group was about mastering the time thing.
Just my two cents.

Oh I just love LOST!!! and I love your posts
Wasnt Ben fondly petting the #8 bunny in a couple of episodes last year?
I agree that Juliet is NOT to be trusted. They're tricking us into feeling sorry for her. But why would Jack leave the island alone if everything works out between him & Juliet?
Posted by: Vikki | Friday, March 07, 2008 at 07:48 AM
I didn't have time to read your other comments and this theory was already discussed...ignore me. ;-)
But you know when the therapist appeared in the forest with the "voices". What if Ben or someone else can alter time and "send" people to another time to talk to someone. Just before they send someone "voices" from the past/future come through. Kind of like a rip in the time line. But how could Ben? Unless he is sending them from the future.
There HAS to be something to all this time warping stuff on the island. I bet Ben has mastered "time" in the future and that is why he know what is going to happen next.
Just a thought....

Okay, haven't posted my recap yet but one thing I"m wondering if I'm correct about...
Do you remember when Goodwin was posing as a survivor? He told Jack his wife died in childbirth. I assumed then that his wife was once who had conceived on the island and died. So I'm thinking the therapist was dead but if that was the case, why wasn't Juliette freaked out to see her?

Oh, and I read in a TV Guide teaser that Juliette makes it off the island and is working alongside Sayid...

This show is wacky, and I've watched it until I got so frustrated trying to figure out what's going on, that I gave up! I can only go so long with out having the loose ends tied up, but that's just me.
