The even more devastating part of this story is that these mothers were forced to only have one child. Meaning many of these grieving mothers possibly gave away or aborted babies and are now being faced with the loss of another- their only.
This story is just horribly sad.

These people will be in my prayers. I simply cannot imagine.

Heartbreaking indeed.
This happened in the Philippines about 25 years ago ... high school building collapse during earthquake - it's devastating...
I just said a prayer ...

I agree. I have been so heavy hearted watching news reports as I hold on to my own daughter. I have been thinking over and over- WE ARE SO BLESSED to live in in America and to be home safe with our families tonight.

Jill's comment was so true . . . and so chilling. My heart just breaks for these precious people.

I do believe I'm going to go hug all of my kids right now.

Oh... can you imagine searching for your classmates?!?!?! That's just not right.
My cousins and their friends searched the river for my sister's murdered body from canoes. I thank God often that they passed right by her. Can you imagine?

I was thinking the same thing as a previous commenter, that so many of these parents probably lost their only child in this tragedy because of the laws. So tragic regardless if you have one child or six or more though. Your child is your child.

I remember when something similar happened in rural Pakistan a few years ago. It hardly got any coverage. I felt sick to my stomach I was so upset about it. It took me quite a while to be able to mentally move on.
Thank you for sharing this. That's one of the things I love about your blog -- you can write fun, witty posts, and yet you also have an awareness of the big picture, that there's so much more going on out there than what we see in our comfortable little American worlds.
I will be praying for these parents and their children with a heavy heart all day today.

And then there are the dimwits that think there are too many people in the world and they should be able to tell people how any children they can have. You know, thezero population people. They ARE people, right. God gives us a love for people, especially for those in these calamitous circumstances. Our prayers go out to them and I thank God for women like you all who God is using to pray for them. His peace be with you all.
