Dang!
I just watched the last five minutes of that episode with my hands over my eyes! Holy shmokes!
I have felt for a long time that something is amiss where Claire is concerned. She is too dedicated of a mother to willingly leave Aaron. If she were separated from him, she would be completely berserk, NOT rocking and smiling in a chair. Here's the excerpt from an interesting theory on the message boards:
Claire died when her house exploded..the island makes dead people seem like reality, hence Christian Sheppard. Christian took his daughter wherever she belongs (a la the afterlife).
What do you think? All that time she was hiking across the island with Sawyer and boat guy, she was actually dead? Plausible?
Another thing--I told Melanie last week (I did! Ask her!) that I think Christian Shepherd is central to this whole thing. I'm not sure why or how, but his increasing number of appearances must be significant.
And back on the boat? I'm just as lost as I can be. What in the heck is going on? Why aren't the captain and Strangely Vicious Military Guy on the same page?
One last thing. I thought that the scene where Hurley and Ben shared a candy bar was excellent television. Perfectly paced at a tense moment. That is some fine writing.
What a show.

Perfectly paced? Fine writing? Oh, come now, Shannon. The writers blew it. They had a great moment for product placement and no matter how closely I looked, I could not discern the brand of candy bar.

I thought I hated Paulo and Nikki until Keamy came along. I'm going to have to watch this episode again before I can even speculate about it.

The thing (as if there's only one) that I'm confused about is that Claire said, "Dad?" when she woke up in the woods and saw Christian. Isn't Christian Jack's dad?

P.S. Did you notice that the Dharma Initiative logo was on the cover of the 'Secondary Protocol' on the ship?

Hi! Thanks for posting this...I promptly shut my eyes, because I haven't seen it, yet. Good thing I had it programmed to record! So, thanks for reminding me to WATCH LOST tonight and not worry about sleep!! :)

So is Claire dead or alive? I can't figure it out. I don't know if I can believe that theory you found on the message board. I mean, its interesting, but I just don't know. Plus she seemed so OUT OF IT. I mean, the creepy dead people making a reappearance usually seem to know more about what is going on than anyone else. I just don't know!
I just don't understand why Christian Shepard is all of a sudden important. They need to start explaining that one! I mean, I know his body is technically on the island somewhere, but he was never even alive on the island! How can he be that important to it? And why have they still not shown us Jacob? ARGH! So frustrating! haha.

my fav part...when hurley is all, so this is where you shot locke...and ben is, yes hurley i was standing exactly where you are (in his dry sarcastic tone)!

You're on to it! I think Christian is central to the whole plot and Claire can certainly be dead now. She seemed very happy, carefree.

I'm new to your blog, but now I'm a faithful subscriber! I'm a Lost junkie too and I can't get enough of that show!!!
I think that Locke was sent to the island to replace Ben and that Aaron will someday replace Locke. I don't read a lot of the message boards about it, so maybe someone has already mentioned or disproved this theory...

I love this show! Could it be possible that Christian fathered Jack and Claire? Could they be siblings and not even know it? He was quite a drinker, so maybe cheating wasn't out of the question for him either. I still don't get how she could leave Aaron behind. I still wish Charlie could come back in and save the day. I miss him. *sniff, sniff*

To answer Elizabeth - Christian Sheppard is Jack's dad, and Claire's dad. He had an affair in Australia, that's why he went to Australia with Anna Lucia, to track down his daughter, Claire. Thing is, neither Jack, nor Claire know that they are related yet. I'm not 100% sure they ever find out.
One thing is certain, the "others" have been watching Locke since his birth. Who thinks that maybe Richard is Jacob? Or that Richard is the true leader of the Others? And why was it Abbadon that convinced Locke to go on the Walkabout? He's the guy who hired the scientists for the freighter! Either way, Abbadon's presence and actions seemingly confirm that every person (or at least the major players) were handpicked to be on that plane.
Plus, I think the Oceanic Six are the only ones to get off before Locke and Ben move the island. Moving the island changes it's position in time, and changes the bearing you would need to get off without being affected.
and yea, Claire is dead. There is no way that woman would just abandon Aaron in a tree like that. No way. When she died, is still not known, but yea. She dead. Has to be.

This is why I love LOST so much! It just continues to blow my mind and I can't ever seem to figure it out!

It gave me chills seeing her in their rocking. Ahhhh!

I'm still in shock from last night. I didn't think about her being dead already, but that does make sense. I think this show is going to leave us lost.

I am glad someone cleared it up about Jack and Claire being half siblings, I was starting to talk to my computer screen trying to explain that!
Claire, dead when she was carrying Aaron across the island? That seems off b/c when they have shown dead people before, they didn't have contact with live people, they have just appeared to them either in a dream or for just a minute.
Does it look like next week, they might actually get off the island? I thought that only 6 got off b/c the others decided to stay or were already dead.

They are all dead, except the 6.

I think Claire died when her cabin exploded. I am not sure why we could still see her but then again, it is LOST. I think Jacob cab occupy any form he wants to...I think he is Christian, the horse that Kate saw in the jungle, etc.

We've seen that Richard guy before and I'm racking my brains trying to remember where... Is he possibly from the Dharma movie that Locke watched back in the first days of the hatch?
Also I think Jack does eventually discover that Claire is his sister- his "you're not even really related to him" comment to Kate about Aaron suggested that...
I also noticed the Dharma symbol on the front of the protocol binder on the boat. I'm thinking that Whidmore is involved with Dharma- maybe the secret founder or the money behind the operation?
Too many questions?!!

Lost- How I love thee, let me count the ways.
First, creepy Richard and the other African American guy never age. Richard was one of the hostiles who helped Ben gas the Dharma group. Richard was also the recruiter of Juliet. Those creepy brown / gold eyes are unnerving. What was the deal with young Locke picking out objects that were his??
Yep Christian Sheppard being both Claire and Jack's dad plus Aaron's grand dad is interesting. The name alone is symbolic-Shepherd and of course Christian. The words "Aaron is where he is supposed to be"... with Sawyer? Ultimately with Kate... That was interesting. Plus Aaron is another strong biblical name. Aaron was Moses brother, and the name means "pregnancy" in Hebrew.
Man alive- I just love this show. Thanks for letting me ramble.

WOW. So many things to think about...
My new theory is that The Island is like the best/worst of fate. It can do anything it wants (keep people alive, keep dead people alive, move itself) to get it's will accomplished.

I think Christian Shepherd is also a central link to much of the madness on the island. It's interesting to me that his name is CHRISTIAN SHEPHERD!
The Claire is dead theory is a very interesting one. It may just be true.

For the best ever, cerebral, deep-thinking commentary on LOST read J. Wood @ Powells Books. I impatiently wait for his review/commentary like I impatiently wait for the show itself! He usually posts on Friday or Saturday following the show.

I'm fascinated that Ben and Locke could be brothers or at least linked somehow. I hate that I miss little thinks like both of their mom's names being Emily.
We're not 100% clear on the timeline, apparently Locke was born to a very very young Emily and Ben was born to a slightly older Emily. Could be one in the same. The island could have some affect on aging. This theory of them being brothers also gives more into the good/evil, white/black references.
Nothing gets ruled out at this point.
Interesting mention about Sawyer possibly being dead since he carried Claire. Maybe gives more reference to the island being full of people that are "dead", giving more possibility of a different dimension.
*Note, even though we had the storyline about Locke's "dad" - as of right now with the latest episode, we know who Locke's mother was with 100% clarity. But the episode left ambiguity to who the father is. Emily's mother said that the guy she was dating was twice her age.
Oh - I loved Ben's line about the island letting him or making him get sick.
The more I watch & the more I read, the more I am thinking about another dimension - some sort of time/space disconnect.

Denise--We don't know for sure that everybody but the 6 is dead--why else would that creepy guy (I didn't know his name was Abbadon, or whatever it is) show up to see Hurley and ask if they are still alive? Plus, we know from the episode when Sun gave birth that Jin's tombstone reads that the day of his death was the day the plane went down. Obviously not, right? (Of course, nothing is obvious on this show.) I just can't believe that everybody but the 6 are dead.
Of course, I'm starting to believe that Claire is really dead, and maybe died during the night before she woke up and saw Christian standing there. I thought the same thing others have said--how could a dead person carry a baby all through the jungle? But I don't think an alive Claire would have abandoned Aaron. I just don't.
