My newly five-year-old Joseph came into the kitchen the other day, shoulders sagging. He sighed sadly and leaned against the counter. Then he wearily said, "Mom, being four was hard."

We went to Wal Mart this morning. As we got out of the car, we all noticed a fluorescent green puddle on the ground next to our car. Because mysterious fluids in a Wal Mart parking lot aren't all that surprising to me, I didn't think much of it. But the boys were dying with curiosity.
"It's Kool-Aid!" one shouted.
"No, it's something leaking from the car!" shouted another.
"Melted ice cream?" suggested the first one.
And then suddenly something wonderful occurred to Joseph and with all the glee in his little heart he shouted, "HEY! Maybe we ran over a turtle! Maybe it's turtle juice!"

The other day Joseph explained to me that he was only a few inches tall.
"Really?" I asked. He nodded. He went on to add that he had been doing battle with an imaginary superhero, and the guy had "shrunked me with his shrunk vision."

Joseph approached a dear elderly gentleman (over 80) at church a couple of weeks ago, and told him bluntly, "You have to be really old to die. But don't worry, you're not old enough yet."
Thank goodness this dear old friend has a good sense of humor.

Excuse me, I have to go. I just looked out the back window, and Joseph is peeking through the neighbors's fence into their backyard, barking at their dog.
Oh, I love that boy.
He sounds so cute. I have a little guy who turned 4 1/2 yesterday, and he is also a quirky little fellow - and I love him, too.

I have a little guy who's 4, and I think his mission in life is to make people laugh with his funny and loving ways. And there's a lot worse he could do than that.

My son is 5, it is a great age. I love the things they come up with.

I wish I were 5 sometimes...but man oh man I don't want to relive the rest of it!

Oh, that's funny! I have a five year old nephew who says things like this all the time. Now I see that it is totally normal! Right before his 5th birthday he had a mental breakdown, and in the midst of tears said "I'm not ready to be five yet!". Thanks for sharing this! In Christ,
Samantha

Turtle juice! I love it! And I do love that boy...

I cracked up at the turtle juice--Caiden would've danced with glee, too! Then he'd have wanted to sing Amazing Grace to the dead "turtle" and adopt its babies, I'm pretty sure. Boys this age are wonderful, aren't they? I'm so excited that I get to experience it again with Grayson, in just a few short years! (If we make it through Two, first, that is. The Terrible Twos are overrated, really.)

I have 3 boys and I just love the things that come out of their mouths.
I can so visualize him barking at the dog, so cute!

What a little darling!! I have so much laughter in my life now with three little ones :) I did a post a few days ago about my oldest son's definition of the word "shock". I couldn't believe what he came up with!

SO much fun!

Isn't that what you're supposed to do to the dog in the neighbor's yard?
I noticed Pilgrim's Progress is temporarily delayed? Did you know there is a version out there that is put in a little more up to date language and vernacular? Might be worth looking into.

Too, too funny! I think my favorite was Turtle Juice. Granted, the visual wasn't very appealing, but oh well! My kiddos are always saying the strangest things...I need to start writing them down :)

Turtle juice! Heee! Is that like Beetle Juice?

I really love little boys. (some days you have to love enough not to kill 'em.)
I have a guy about this age (4 1/2). I love it that his little hand still fits so perfectly in mine and also that he's getting so big and has his own ideas about things.

don't you love seeing the world through little one's eyes, run over turtles, old people and all. Very fun.
