Hello, my Works-For-Me friends! I had a little WFMW withdrawal over the bloggy break. I awakened on Wednesday with a sense of panic: however shall I navigate this day without finding 47 new uses for vinegar?
So welcome back! Here's my quick trip I learned over the holidays, by watching that great source of useful human knowledge: the DIY network. You know those annoying little "dents" left behind in your carpet when you move something heavy off it? And even when you run your fingers over it, it still stays all smooshed down?
Turns out, if you'll just drop a piece of ice in the dent, the slowly melting water will cause the carpet fibers to swell back up. It will dry, and your carpet will look as good as new. I tried it myself with the dents left behind by our Christmas tree, and it really worked!
And how satisfying to know that an evening of mindless cable television can be useful.
Have a tip you'd like to share with the blogosphere? Leave your link below. Remember to look through the guidelines, especially if this is your first time to participate. As always, thanks for playing along!
OH! Before I forget...Bloggy Giveaways is back up and running as of today, with a whole new stash of giveways scheduled in the coming weeks. Head over there for a peek at the absolutely deliciously cute stuff being offered up today...

When we moved, I bought a bag of ice from Sonic for $1.22. Just poured those little suckers in the creases and voila!
Posted by: kelli | Tuesday, January 01, 2008 at 10:30 PM
Yep...when we moved, I took all of the ice from the ice maker and placed them in the little dents. They worked like a charm!

I'm glad WFMW (and bloggy giveaways of course!) are back up. Thanks!

I have heard of this before but have never tried it. I may need to rearrange my living room to try it out! Thanks!
Posted by: Vickie | Tuesday, January 01, 2008 at 11:51 PM
Good idea--I've heard there are little sticks of colored putty that you can buy to rub on the furniture where you get scrapes that will "erase" them (or rather cover them up).

Even if you've heard tips before from TV or magazines, most people can use a reminder now and then. Thanks!

I'll have to check this out! I have really heavy furniture, and on the rare occasions I can get Ornery to help me move it, there are always divots in the carpet. It's almost enough to make a girl want to leave things where they were. Almost! :-) Thanks for hosting, Shannon. It was really hard for me to think of something today, since in my mind it should be Monday.

This is my first entry! It's for all those who have ever "ruined" a dry erase board by using a permanent marker.

I've read about the ice cube trick. Have never had to try it. Glad to hear it works. Ice works to help remove candle wax too.

now that the chaos of the holidays is done, it's good to get back to a "routine" and WFMW is one of my fave's!

Being in the carpet industy I can say this tip does work for those minor indentions. If you have piece of futniture that has been in the same place for years it will may not. Take a brush and brush the spot first and then do the ice. You may need to repeat the cycle a few times.

"As it turns out, 1984 smelled a lot like pickles. "
I just read back a way in your blog (which, it turns out, I LOVE), and this one made me laugh so hard I couldn't open my eyes. Whew. Thanks.
If I think of any helpful tips, I'll let you know - my mother gave me Hints and Help from Heloise as a wedding present - in 1992.
