I was chatting with my designer buddy Jules last week, when she casually mentioned that I should check out Urban Fonts, home to roughly 38 quadzillion free fonts.
Free! Fonts!
And now, my poor little Dell laptop is wailing and gnashing its teeth, groaning under all the weight of the downloads,

I can sympathize! I'm an amateur/professional graphic/desktop designer and I often suffer from font-envy. I've used http://www.dafont.com before to download free fonts, but hadn't heard of Urban before. I guess I have some downloadin' to do tonight!
Posted by: Joy | Tuesday, April 08, 2008 at 10:41 PM

Shannon - you are kidding me!! Just last night (and I am NOT joking) I was looking for a fiolex girls font that someone from church used. Where did I end up???? Urban Fonts!!
How fun! I'm like you, I wanted them ALL! I wish they had a package you could grab rather than need to do each one. You might want to link to a How To info site so people could learn how to install them on their computer.
Here's what I found on about.com:
Installing Fonts

thanks for hosting again... it's been awhile but I couldn't refrain today!

I am a fontoholic. My fave font site is www.fontasy.org but I hadn't stumbled upon Urban Fonts yet. There's also a Yahoo Group that distributes fonts for free in weekly batches. I don't recall the name since I unsubbed moons ago, but you can go to yahoogroups.com and search under fonts.
Watch out hard drive. Here I come!

To go with your gazillion fonts you might want to look into a font management program called "Font Thing". In fact I'll make that, along with how to install fonts, my WFMW. Give me 5 minutes :-)

Gotta love free fonts! Yay!!
Posted by: Crystal | Tuesday, April 08, 2008 at 11:11 PM

I'm going to check it 'em all out right now, yippee!! =0)
Posted by: Runningamuck | Wednesday, April 09, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Yes, yes yes, I'm married to a fontaholic graphic designer. And yes about the "Font Thing" - I believe it's a font organizer. A FONT ORGANIZER!!! Have we all gone mad?!?!?
And here's a little snicker for you. DH used to do the screen graphics for Sunday services...and some of his favorite fonts to use (coincidentally) had swear words as titles.
Snnnnnneeeeeeerrrrrrrrkkkkkkkkk.

I like the site where you can make your handwriting into a font.
Posted by: Michelle at Scribbit | Wednesday, April 09, 2008 at 12:37 AM
Oh yeah... As a graphic designer, I use that all the time. There's also 1001fonts.com and abstractfonts.com. All are wonderful.
And here's the site where you can make your handwriting a font:

Thanks for the info on the fonts. I have gone to the site and I have added it to my favorites. I will go back there later when I have more time. I am guessing that you can dowload these fonts and use them on your blog if you have a custom web design. I don't think my blog, since I have a classic template will allow it, but I will see.
By the way, I goofed up and forgot to put down the description of my household hint so I added an additional link. You can delete #91 if you want to because #92 has the description of Clipless Chip Bag.
Thank you!

After staying up way too late (again), I just wanted to say "Thanks, Shannon!" for doing WFMW each week. This week I had "time" to browse through several of the posts, and a good handful of them were great tips for my life right here, right now. So thanks for being a blessing to us all!
Posted by: Stretch Mark Mama | Wednesday, April 09, 2008 at 01:35 AM
I have downloading issues too! Hubby made me promise no more since we got the new computer!
Posted by: 'cuz I'm the mommy, that's why | Wednesday, April 09, 2008 at 01:39 AM
Shannon, I am sooo sorry that I am such a ninny...it's late and I can't think straight.
I received a comment from your site stating that they couldn't find my blog by clicking on my name and they had to google my blog.
So, I came back and clipped on my two posts #91 and #92 and the URL was incorrect that i gave.
I just posted #96 so if you can, you can delete Items 91 and 92.
Sorry...

Posted by: Ericka | Wednesday, April 09, 2008 at 07:57 AM
yay, free fonts! You have to be careful with them though, you can install too many to your computer and then certain software programs (like adobe photoshop :P) will have a heart attack when trying to open. But I do love me some fonts :)
Posted by: ames | Wednesday, April 09, 2008 at 09:05 AM
I love urban fonts. My faves are cheri and brady bunch remastered. You can do an entire document in the brady bunch title font. :)

golly gee, why are fonts so much fun? I am a lover of words and fonts just make it so much more fun to read them!
okay, so what is that first font you typed in called? ("because I can" one) that's one I see all the time in these scrappy mags I'm reading. I love that one.
If you can, zip me a note on the name of it!
thx!!!

Posted by: Kara | Wednesday, April 09, 2008 at 10:59 AM
I love fun fonts! I really do... but I rarely, if ever, download them anymore. Especially free ones. The reason is that sometimes (and my husband would probably say all the time... but he is the computer guy) they come with spyware or other such things that can and often do bog your computer down over time!
I'd watch out for it... otherwise, enjoy those fun fonts for me. :)

I have a serious Font Addiction. I've been sober for a few months now. But I fear this threatens to push me right back into the abyss.
Would your blog insurance cover treatment for me?

Oh! This is a good one... but I still can't find the font I'm looking for. =(
A few years ago (four, maybe?) I downloaded a font that had heart-shaped dots on the ends of all the letters. Like, at the top and bottom of an "l," etc. I've searched and searched to find it again.
Anyone?
Anyone?
