Who knew that Facebook was a parenting tool? When I mentioned on my Facebook page recently that my son had a stubborn tooth that wouldn't come about, my old college friend Missy was there with a brilliant solution: Orajel, the baby teething ointment.
When your kid has a tooth that's hanging by a thread, but they're feeling anxious about the little "snap" of pain that sometimes comes with the pulling, apply some numbing Orajel first. Pain-free tooth pulling!
Facebook, Orajel, and having smart friends works for me!

We're losing teeth (and still growing some) here left and right.
Why orajel didn't come to mind with my squeamish girls is beyond me! :)

Duh! That's brilliant!
And we've got lots of loose teeth a-coming.
My oldest (age 7) has only lost two and today we found three, yes THREE wigglers in there! I'm sure he's afraid to pull at least one of them. I'm buying Orajel tomorrow!
Posted by: Amy @ MomsToolbox | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 10:45 PM
I hope I can remember this in a few years when we get to "stubborn teeth" stage!
Posted by: $5 Dinner Mom | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 10:50 PM
Ooooh, I'd forgotten about Orajel. I'm pretty sure my oldest was addicted to at as a teething baby!!

We've got loss of teeth coming up around here. I'll have to remember this one :)

ORAJEL! Now why didn't I think of that? Thanks, I'll keep this handy as my 5 yr old is sure to begin losing teeth soon, and I still have one more behind her to go through the process as well.
Know what else I use it for? My son bit his tongue hard enough to make it bleed. You know that'll go away soon but it'll hurt like the dickens until it does. Orajel kept his tongue numb until the pain subsided.
Hm. Bet you could use that for split lips, too! :P
Posted by: Amber (BGH) | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Wow! What a great idea! Seems to me someone should have been marketing it for this purpose!
Posted by: Raise Them Up | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 11:26 PM
Oh my gosh! Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you! We haven't entered the toothless grin phase yet, but my oldest is 6, so it's not far away. She is the world's biggest drama queen, so this will help me immensely! And can you believe I just bought some orajel a few weeks ago? Yay!
Posted by: Shawna | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 11:46 PM
Why did I never think of that? Perfect!

That's a great idea. I will have to try that with my son who is incredibly nervous about losing teeth.
Posted by: Amy | Wednesday, October 08, 2008 at 01:14 AM
Alright... So I use this for cutting teeth but I never would have thought to use it for pulling teeth. GREAT Idea. Although I probably won't need it for a year or two or three. LOL

Great idea! Somehow I have been made the family tooth-puller. Even though my nieces live a thousand miles away I have been the one to pull out both of their first lost teeth. I also pulled out my daughter's first lost tooth, though my son pulled his out on his own. I never thought about using Orajel!

I REALLY could have used this tip yesterday.
since dd12 is losing huge molars, and one was holding on by a thread and it HURT, but it HAD to come out...
She finally just yanked it out. Orajel would have been a perfect solution.
maybe next time - there are 3 teeth left (all molars).

very helpful tip!

Hey, now there is one I've actually used before! Only my stubborn middle daughter doesn't trust it. Her tooth was literally dangling last night, she could put it all the way forward and all the way back - when I picked her up from school I thought it was gone because she had it tucked under her tongue! She would NOT let my dh or I grab it though! Finally dh "wiggled" it and managed to knock it out - dd was STUNNED - dh said she couldn't figure out what she was supposed to do, here was the tooth in her hand and it didn't hurt! It was so funny.
