Happy Father's Day
He pushes them to take risks when I'm too afraid. He tells them how to use a socket wrench, shake a hand, work a compass, and paddle a canoe. He helps me be firm when I want to be too easy, and he helps me stay calm when I didn't...

If You Give a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy a Cookie
This afternoon I was sitting with my daughter as we tried to cram for the library's summer reading program enjoy some literary stimulation. I was reading If You Give a Mouse a Cookie for the 3,722,185th time in my life, when the 13-year-old wandered in to ask me for something...

Love it! My husband said "you can't make stuff like that up" :)

Another reason to be glad we don't have cable, I guess!

Hilarious! Mythbuster juniors! My kids lobe Mythbusters -- especially the one with the hot water heater that shot through a roof.

Oops -- that should be love, not lobe....

Brilliant!

I decided just this week to add MythBusters to next year's science curriculum. They do some amazing experiments (complete with charts and graphs!) and my boys are bored out of their gourd with celery and food coloring. :D Time to (watch someone else) blow stuff up!

This makes me laugh out loud! We only have basic cable so we don't get to watch that show, but whenever we do - we love it!

Hilarious! What exactly is it?
You're raising scientists & thinkers over there, that's for sure!
Posted by: Stephanie | Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 03:37 PM
Um, good luck with that. Once your kids start watching Mythbusters, *they* will be blowing stuff up. It's inevitable.

Thank you. That's my 11 year old, who writes more neatly than anyone else in the family. If the 13 year old had written it...well, let's just say it wouldn't have translated as easily via photo. ;)

"Something I want to build for the Fourth Of July", he said, and I shuddered and decided not to ask too many questions...

P.S. And oh yes, PEPPER SPRAY. *cringe*

Thanks for sharing. It is nice to know that my husband and son aren't the only ones!
Posted by: stormy | Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 04:26 PM
Ha! My husband would be proud if he saw this. He LOVES Mythbusters :)
Posted by: Tootie | Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 04:50 PM
hahahaha! That's awesome! (maybe a little scary, but still awesome). Just think - he was planning this instead of playing xbox. I call that a win. Can't wait til my kids are old enough for Mythbusters!
Posted by: JJ | Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 06:20 PM
What exactly is it? Looks like they took good notes...
Posted by: Jules | Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 07:59 PM
That's great! Mythbusters is one of my 2yo's favorite shows. He's such a daredevil that it worries me he likes the show so much. I can't imagine what I have in store for me with him!

Better than what I found IN my sink: a bat, and yes, I took a picture.

I'm mostly impressed with how well the photograph of the drawing turned out. I'm pretty sure I'm coveting your camera right now.

Excellent!! A+ for "creativity" and "initiative"

Get him the Peter Spier book: Bored, Nothing to Do. Or maybe not, it might give him ideas.

My boys are obsessed with Myth Busters. And didn't they just have a marathon to celebrate an anniversary? I told my boys we could blow up some fast food as a comment on how I feel about that stuff. I think they're going to hold me to it! If so it will make my blog for sure!

I think you have a budding engineer on your hands! Don't you just love when kids use their brains like that?

With all that oil, it's probably flammable! ;)

Canon PowerShot SX120. A cheapie, and I love it.
Posted by: Shannon | Thursday, July 01, 2010 at 12:39 PM
Just let him build it! That was some serious effort!

My DVR is currently hogged up with Mythbusters shows. Thanks to the teamwork of my boys (12, 11, and 5). Their favorite so far? The thirty foot high flames you get when you toss a glass of water on a grease fire. YIKES!
Posted by: Raise Them Up | Thursday, July 01, 2010 at 10:47 PM
My guys love MythBusters. They've learned so much and now know why when I had a small grease fire a while back, I wouldn't let them throw water on it, thanks to one of their latest shows. It would be interesting to hear the stories the mothers of those two guys (on MythBusters) have to tell of their growing up years.

My little brother watches mythbusters all the time. He hasn't tried to build anything yet, but I think that day is just around the corner.
Cool picture!

We have started working on the slip 'n' slide idea. The neigbors have a nice pond. One Thanksgiving it was Diet Coke and Mentos with another homeschool family. Oh, yes, we have been known to try that at home.

Ha! Awesome. My son used to sketch out plans for ginormous cat "play areas" made with boxes. They included ducts, backyards, and a bathroom - only a small amount of the "rooms" he had planned. Needless to say, I'd let him work on one until he got tired (which was usually 30 minutes) and then "accidentally" trip over a box and send it out to the garage.

That is sooo something my son would come up with too. (And, yes, he likes Mythbusters!)
Hope you are doing well, Shannon. I haven't been by in a while, but it is always so wonderful to pop by! I really do love your blog. :)

I love that the paint layers were even labeled! Ah, boys.

Oh, you must be so proud! I LOVE Mythbusters!!!
